    This electric arc lighter exceeds my expectations. I use it to start my grill using the Weber "Cubes". Just touch the tip of the lighter to the cube, press the button, and the cube starts burning in a few seconds. So far I've used it over 50 times on its first battery charge. I'm sure it would be just as effective lighting paper.

    Why this is better than butane lighters:
    - Lights easilly with a push of one button (no child-guard needed)
    - Ignites even in heavy wind
    - Never have to refill (just re-charge)
    - The tip never gets hot.
    - Should work well even in cold weather (butane doesn't)

    I have one tiny complaint: its easy for it to roll off my BBQ shelf because of the cylindrical shape. Be nice if it had a hook on the end to hang it.

    This is a pretty cool new gadget for lighting the fireplace, candles, etc. It’s nice you don’t have to refill with butane or throw it out after it’s empty, but it’s not a perfect replacement to a flame lighter, either. First, it makes my 8-yr-old scream with ear pain every time I push the button. There is definitely a high-pitched time that only young children can hear, that they say is as painfully annoying as a smoke alarm going off. Other children at a birthday party said they heard it too. This is not an issue with adults. The other drawback is the small arc needs to be precisely placed on the newspaper under your fire to get it to ignite. You can’t just keep it against the material until it ignites like a butane lighter. I think I’d stick with butane torch lighters until this technology can be perfected.
